Investing in Artists and the Arts Ecosystem.

FACT/SF believes that a robust and thriving arts sector is an essential component of a vibrant society.

Over the past decade and across our eight Fieldwork programs, we have provided material resources, money, and opportunity for 81 lead artists in the field to create and present their own work. We do this in addition to producing our own art, and with the support of numerous individual donors like you.

Between now and April 26th, our goal is to raise $35,000 in support of these programs and the artists they impact. The vast majority of these funds will be raised at the FACT/SF Gala, and we hope to see you there!

OVERVIEW

Through Fieldwork, FACT/SF makes it a little bit easier for Bay Area artists to thrive and for their art to reach the public. The ripple effects are profound. Each year, we invite 20-22 artists into our programs. In the process of working on their projects, each of these Fieldwork artists engage, on average, another 5-10 collaborators. Ultimately, each of their productions typically go on to reach 200-700 audience members. As a conservative estimate, our Fieldwork programs have not only engaged the 81 lead artists directly, but supported opportunity for an additional 405 artistic collaborators and 16,200 audience members.

This work cannot be done alone, and we are currently looking for partners to invest in FACT/SF and our efforts to sustain and enrich the field. In 2024, providing 22 lead artists with these resources and opportunities will cost $69,019. On average, that’s just over $3,100 per artist.

Nearly $34,000 of these expenses are already underwritten by earned income and grants, and FACT/SF needs to raise an additional $35,000 by April 26. We invite the larger FACT/SF Family to invest in this work and partner with us to realize these ambitious, optimistic, and necessary goals.

We hope that you can join us at the FACT/SF Gala to celebrate all that we’ve accomplished so far and to sustain this work into the future.

If you’re unable to attend, we encourage you to donate to the cause. Donations can be made here, and gifts of $1,000 or more are especially impactful.

Mission

FACT/SF believes that civic life is made more vibrant by the cultural contributions of dance artists, and that a robust and healthy arts ecosystem enables all artists to create at their greatest potential. In service of these beliefs, we produce our own adventurous and composed contemporary dance performances for the public, employ and model ethical work practices, and design and offer programs that support dance artists in their work.

Vision

FACT/SF envisions a world where dance artists have the agency to make the work they want, with the people they want, and for the people they want. FACT/SF is seeding an ecosystem where:

  • Dance artists have equitable access to the necessary and relevant resources, training, and community required to enter and remain in the field.

  • Dance knowledge and resources are shared across communities, regions, generations, economies, and identities, working from a model of resource abundance.

  • Gatekeepers listen to artists and prioritize their needs and interests.

  • Performing arts events are accessible to all people, as are educational tools and resources for expanding one’s understanding and appreciation of the arts.
