Audience Information for Split
Essential information
Split runs approximately 30 minutes, and will be performed by one dancer for one audience member at a time. Though the performance is intimate in nature, there are no direct audience/performer interactions.
As each performance has a timed entry, it is important that you arrive 5 minutes or less outside of your reserved time. If you arrive too early, we unfortunately do not have a location inside the CounterPulse building for you to wait. If you arrive too late, we cannot guarantee that you will be able to view the piece. If you are running late, please call or text 415 702 7654 ASAP to notify our Production Manager, Jax, who will see if we are able to make accommodations.
Please remember that viewing Split is an individual experience. We will make an exception to this only for attendees who require support from a companion at all times. The experience will last 30 minutes and there are gender-neutral restrooms available.
Photography and videography during the performance is strictly prohibited. You will be asked to turn off your phone and place it in a small box in a secure location just outside the performance space. If possible, please refrain from bringing large bags or coats that you don’t wish to carry with you through the space.
accessibility
Attendees will enter the Split experience by walking down a flight of stairs, and part of the show will include walking up a very short flight of stairs in low lighting. There are ADA accessible alternatives available for anyone who is not comfortable on either set of stairs. If you anticipate needing an alternative, please let Jax know in advance at jblaska@factsf.org. There is an elevator and alternatives available for anyone who is not comfortable on the stairs. Note also that part of the show happens in low lighting. If you need assistance navigating through low lighting please don’t hesitate to let your usher know. Our whole team is on hand to support your experience throughout the piece.
COVID-19 PROTOCOLS
The entire FACT/SF team is fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and we require that you are, too. Please be prepared to show proof of vaccination when you arrive at the venue. For added safety, we will also have air purifiers in both the viewing and performing spaces, and our team will all wear masks except for the single dancer while they are performing. While the dancer is performing, they and you will be on opposite sides of a plexiglass wall. You should plan to wear a mask at all times.
If you are unvaccinated or unable to attend in person for any other reason, we would still love to share this work with you virtually. Please buy a ticket and then contact jblaska@factsf.org

ABOUT
Split examines whether dissociative episodes serve a productive or exploratory role in identity formation, and is informed by the performers’ personal histories, interviews conducted with members of the Bay Area’s vast and diverse queer community, and literature such as Angels in America, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and Wittgenstein’s Mistress.
Each of the 8 nightly shows are designed, according to artistic director Charles Slender-White, “to slide one’s brain into a more expansive and heightened state."
